Your Domino Effect in 3 Steps
Everything must be a part of your domino effect, tipping from one section to the next, building trust and excitement as you go along. If one domino is out of place, then the sales process falls short and your customers leave.
To get it right, you have to eliminate the parts of your blog that distract people from your mission.
These are the 3 steps that you need to follow through on to reach your goals.
1. Understand The Path to Your Main Goal
Everything you do needs to be a part of your domino effect. If there is a weak spot then it either needs to be removed or changed.
Put yourself in your visitors’ shoes. Try to see your blog through their eyes.
Invite a few friends over and ask them to talk out loud as they navigate through your blog. Watch what distracts them and what tips them in the direction that you want them to go in, like signing up for your email updates or buying your products.
Another great tool is Crazy Egg’s heatmap tool. You can see where they drop off and where you need to tighten up your blog.
It’s important to understand what engages your people and what encourages them to leave.
2. Uncover Your BIG Domino
Your BIG Domino is usually the main reason people refer your blog to their friends. For example if people refer you because you blog about productivity, that’s a good start, but doesn’t pique their curiosity

Now if you are a productivity specialist for software CEOs who want to get more done while also having a life, now we are talking! When you are clear about who you help, you make it much easier for people to recommend you to their friends.
3. Focus on Your Connecting Systems
When you focus on the sale, you usually don’t end up with the sale. It’s the conundrum that many bloggers face.
You need to look at all the value you’ve created and forget about developing your connections and deepening. You wouldn’t lean in for a kiss when your date first opens the door. There is social protocol. The same goes for your blog.
You need to focus on deepening connections and making the sale the part that happens naturally as you’ve earned their trust.
Look at how people are tipping from one part of your blog to the next. Are they getting more excited to connect with you as they go from one page to the next?
The First Step
Even if you haven’t created a product and you know you want to very soon, you can still work on improving your connection systems. One of the biggest mistakes bloggers make is not trying to deepen their connection with their visitors. That should always be your first step.
Every visitor is there for help. Give them a compelling reason to want to deepen a connection with you through email, social media, etc.
Then the sales dance can begin.
